I am sooo excited to finally start posting again! In the midst of a stressful ton of homework and midterms and lots of insomnia, I’ve missed the bookstagram community - my fave bunch of book lovers! 💗🥺 I can’t wait to get back into reading books that aren’t assigned as homework. Life has been crazy busy for me lately, and it’s about to get even busier now that school is starting up. My goal is to read 40 books this year (watch me procrastinate again even after lowering the goal number 😒), and in two weeks, I’ve managed to read...one. Just not feeling it right now, I guess. However, the book I read was Sorry For Your Loss by @jessieannfoley, and I really enjoyed it! It hit close to home, but that made it all the better, I think. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author! I hope once the pre-uni nerves wear off and I’m back in classes, I’ll be more in a relaxed mood and read more. Anyway! Hope you all are having a wonderful start to 2021. I can’t believe we’re already halfway through the month. When is time going to slow down?

I had a wonderful weekend, and I sincerely hope you can say the same! Christmas is almost here, which means I am busily wrapping presents and finishing any gifts I’m making myself. I also plan on reading 4 books this week, mostly during evenings when I may be tempted to pick up my phone or watch YouTube or the like. Distractions are everywhere, but I’ve found that they’re usually on my phone. 😅 May your days be merry and bright no matter where you are in life! ❤️

Thanks for the book recommendations on my previous post! If you have any more you’d like to add, please do! We need to see more of ourselves in fiction! 😊 Today I started reading Both Of Me, a novel about dissociative identity disorder. It’s a highly stigmatized disorder, which is why we need to learn more about it instead of relying on Hollywood portrayals. As with most disorders portrayed in film, DID is often sensationalized (alters are shown as serial killers with the same frequency of autistic people being shown as math savants), which is frankly disappointing and damaging to say the very least. Neurodivergent and disabled characters can have superpowers, but if you can’t do it tastefully and with your facts straight and with an ounce of creativity instead of falling back on sensationalism, perhaps leave it to someone who knows there’s more to DID reps than the misinformed “scary alter” stereotype, and more to autism than throwing a pack of one hundred toothpicks on a table and seeing if the autistic person can tell there are three missing. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I digress. How did this soapbox get here and why am I standing on it? Someone help me down. 😂 Anyway, regarding Both Of Me, the character who has DID also has “a little added autism to spice up his other personality.” So far, he just seems a little quirky. 🤔 Even the DID - the Macguffin of the entire story - doesn’t seem all that believable (though I can’t speak from experience, only second-hand knowledge and conversations with people who have DID). Maybe once I get a bit further into the book, things will start lining up. It feels great to read again now that school is ending! ☺️

I‘m looking for more books that spotlight neurodiversity/disabilities/etc (especially #ownvoices, but that’s not a requirement!), so I’d love it if you guys would share all your favorites in the comments! 🥰 We need more books with disabled characters that are well-written, well-researched, and full of reality instead of stereotypes or silly myths that should have been debunked ages ago (but if someone ever published a book about an autistic fairy queen with a pet unicorn, I won’t complain - sign me up for myths like that! 🧚🏼‍♀️).

Finals week has been crazy busy, and I’m tired, but you know what? It’s been a good week. In spite of all the busyness, I’ve already managed to read through a decent chunk of Tune It Out (Well is adorable and the sensory processing disorder rep is ON POINT), crochet a crazy bunch, have some pretty nice workdays, remember to water my plants, and clean my room! I also got to spend a lot of time with my family on top of all that. So, I am a happy little camper, and I hope you are feeling the same way wherever you are right now. ☺️❤️
