Books I’ve Been Reading Lately | March 2019

Hello, lovelies!

We’re halfway through March, and it’s been a long (but good!) month for me. I’ve been so busy with writing and school — and if we’re being honest, watching shows on Netflix when there’s a free moment — that I haven’t carved out much time to just sit down and read. However, I have been reading a little, and on really good days, I’ve read up to 100 pages!

The sun has been shining, and even though it’s been a bit chilly, I’ve been able to sit on the porch and get my daily Vitamin D while reading in one of my current reads. Yes, I’m reading more than one book. Alas, that’s probably why I’m not finishing any in the free time I have…

I’ve been picking up A LOT of books in the Young Adult genre. At the moment, I’m reading coming-of-age and romance YA, and there have been some really good ones that I want to share with you all!

Within These Lines by Stephanie Morrill

I received this book for free as a blogger for a FFBC tour, and L-O-V-E-D it! There were so many incredible things about Within These Lines. I don’t typically read Historical Fiction, but would highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. While the story is set during WWII, the message carries through to the present day. It’s too good to pass up.

Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry

Since reading and absolutely loving her book Say You’ll Remember Me, I decided to try out another of Katie McGarry’s books. While it wasn’t the usual type of book I read and I didn’t think it was as good as SYRM, I still enjoyed the tension and banter between the characters.

Also, Oz and his occasional, casual quotes about tornadoes and rabbit holes…it’s like he was shamelessly flaunting his bookish name, and I loved it.

More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer

This was my first book written by Brigid Kemmerer, and I was EXTREMELY impressed by her writing! She instantly became one of my auto-buy authors, no joke.

The characters were so intriguing, and I related to them so much. I loved watching Rev slowly let his guard down around Emma and Matthew. This is the second book in the Letters To The Lost series, but it’s a stand-alone and Letters wasn’t available at the library, so I picked this one up. I honestly can’t wait to read Letters!

A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard

There aren’t many books I’ve found that feature a deaf rep, good or bad. I’ve got to say the deaf rep in Thunder was pretty fantastic. I loved how Rhys was portrayed as someone who didn’t want anyone to think less of him because of his deafness.

There’s a lot of fluffy romance in this one, but it was balanced out by other themes in the plot. I’m usually good with fluff so long as it’s not ALL the book is about, haha.

Besides the deaf rep (Rhys), there was also an anxiety rep provided through Steffi. While reading this book, I was extremely stressed and ended up having to put the book down for a little bit because the descriptions of Steffi’s anxiety were impacting me too much. However, once I was less stressed and picked up the book again, I enjoyed the rest of it. I really hope we can get more books like this in the future!

Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think? Any favorites or did you find some new titles to add to your TBR? I’d love to know!
